11/05/2011 | NOT ONLY PORTA PIA

DITEC automatic doors feature in many of the Eternal City’s most important sites

There is great historical value associated with the doorways of Rome, such as the famous Porta Pia, whose breach in 1870 was one of the finest moments of the Italian Risorgimento, putting an end to the temporal power of the Popes and annexing Rome to the new kingdom of Italy. Then there is the Porta Portese, a popular Sunday haunt of Romans and tourists alike, for the renowned market that was the inspiration for a great song by Claudio Baglioni, one of the city’s most enduring favourite musical sons. The Italian capital has lost many of its iconic doorways over the centuries, and yet there are still plenty left. Think of the Aurelian Walls, the Leonine Walls and the Janiculum Walls, and Rome is the only European capital city to have kept its curtain of fortification walls virtually intact.

The doors that we would like to talk about, though, are of rather more recent construction: DITEC automatic doors, of course.
For hospitals, automatic entrances are synonymous with safety and hygiene: take those that we have produced for the city’s Spallanzani, Sant’Andrea and Bambin Gesù hospitals, for example, as well as in the operating theatres at the trauma unit.
For major public departments, it is a question of both practicality and image; the Ministry of Economic Development, the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro, the Vatican Library (Charlemagne wing) and the Vatican Offices in Via Paolo VI street all throw open their doors to the public courtesy of DITEC automation systems. But what about grand, monumental entrances with high volumes of pedestrian traffic, where something sober is required, in keeping with the tone? DITEC has ideal solutions for these settings too, as can be seen at the Museum of the Risorgimento and the Flags Museum, at the Vittoriano. And many other specimens can be found in the local area, including at the following facilities: the Salaria Sport Village, the Città dello Sport gym in Pomezia, Radio Dimensione Suono, the Casal del Marmo young offenders’ institution, the sharply contrasting Caffè Ducati on Via Botteghe Oscure – one of the trendiest and most popular restaurant-bars for Italian bike fans – and many more besides.

A whole range of door models have been employed, as befits the highly diverse architectural contexts and uses involved, with Valor and Rex automatic doors featuring prominently. One of our brand’s great strengths is its breadth of solutions that can meet any requirements for all kinds of doors and gates, in public and private settings – from commercial and industrial to residential.
Well, everyone knows that the magnificent arcades of the Colosseum have no doors, but just in case the city authorities were thinking of making a change ... they know who to call!
