The “Sixth Report on the Italian Hotel System” written in conjunction with Mercury of Florence was presented on the occasion of the 60th Meeting of Federalberghi (the Italian Hotel Federation), currently under way in Rome in the presence of the Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi and of the Minister for Tourism, Michela Vittoria Brambilla.
Since 1950 (the year in which Federalberghi was set up), the number of accommodation facilities has risen from 20 thousand to over 34 thousand units, and the number of beds has shot up from 365,000 to just a little over 2.2 million today; hotel rooms have gone from just 216 thousand in 1950 to almost 1.1 million today.
Italy is the fourth country in the world for hotel rooms, after the USA (4.6 million rooms), Japan (1.7 million) and China (1.6 million).
Italy is ranked first in Europe for the number of hotel rooms and beds. It is followed closely by Germany (920 thousand rooms and 1.7 million beds), Spain (840 thousand rooms and 1.7 million beds) and France (630 thousand rooms and 1.3 million beds).
As for accommodation figures, Italy is the second in Europe, with 252 million overnight stays, superseded only by Spain which records 268 million overnight stays in hotels. It is followed at some distance by Germany with 218 million and France with 202 million overnight stays.
In Italy, the annual number of tourists totals almost 374 million, of which 252 million in hotels and 122 million in other amenities.
Almost 60% of the clientele is Italian, while the rest is foreign.
31% of hotels are located in seaside resorts, 19% in artistic hotspots both large and small, 15% in mountain resorts, 5% in spa resorts, 4.5% in lakeside resorts and the remainder split between business cities, hillside towns and religious destinations.
The Italian region with the most hotels is Trentino Alto Adige, with 5,862 facilities, followed by Emilia Romagna with 4,618 and by Veneto with 3,248 hotels.
4- and 5-star hotels are in the highest concentrations in Lombardia with 514 facilities.
Rome is the city with the largest number of beds: 102 thousand, followed by Rimini with 68 thousand and Milan with 49 thousand.
5.6% of hotels in Italy, totalling 1912 facilities, are part of chains (30% of which are foreign), while the remaining 94.4%, totalling 32,242 facilities, are individual hotels.
Tourist consumption totals almost 100 billion Euro each year among Italians and foreigners, a third of which ascribable to hotels (33 billion Euro).
DITEC has a good footing in this industry thanks to its long-standing experience (over 35 years of production and sales in the world of automatic entrances) thanks to its extensive range of doors, entrances and automatic gates.
It is no odd occurrence to find a DITEC automatic entrance in either major luxury hotels or more traditional accommodation facilities, as well as in the most significant floating hotels.
Previous news include case histories, including major ones, of automatic revolving doors, automatic curved, and automatic sliding doors.
DITEC automatic doors are sturdy, reliable and are suitable for both main entrances as well as interior doors.
Automatic swing doors, or automatic sliding doors, can split different rooms up stylishly and functionally: reserved sitting rooms, kitchens, breakfast rooms, access doors to spa areas or sports facilities: these are all examples of clever installations.
But that’s not all: DITEC automatic barriers can control access to parking areas, optimising the available surface area while sectional garage doors, or the more stylish ones like the Gold Alu model, can provide an elegant entrance to garages.
Also in the hotel industry, DITEC is the only supplier capable of providing the right solutions, for all entrances to the facility.
